I interviewed actor Alex Montaldo and writer Jeff Mussilo about their film ‘In The Ring’ at the world famous Gleason’s Boxing Gym in Brooklyn, NY.

The film is based off of Alex’s real life work with his non-profit organization called stop-pd.org or stoPD “Support and Training to Overcome Parkinson’s disease” and their mission to help people with Parkinson’s disease improve their quality of life. More information can be found in their Facebook pagerocksteadyboxingnyla

In our conversation, we delve into the process of finding and working with a screenwriter to develop a screenplay, the collaboration process of bringing that story to life, finding producers who can help you bring that vision to life, and finding your audience when you have a socially conscientious story.

A film with a cause behind it is a great way to build support and a following for an indie filmmaker, because it often gives you a group of people who already identify with the cause and are searching for more information about it.

You don’t have to make a film with a cause, but if you do, be sure to utilize the built in audience to get your film seen and help you spread the word about your message.
